A Rich History of Irish Heritage in Houston. The Houston St. Patrick’s Day Parade is deeply rooted in the city's history, dating back to the 1880s, when early parades were held in “Irish Town”, a neighborhood near St. Patrick’s Church on Harrisburg Boulevard. Houston Irish Stew Cook-off and Music Festival (February 17, 2024) Houston St. Patrick's Parade Commission also organizes other themed events, namely the Houston Irish Stew Cook-off and Music Festival, set to take place a month before the parade. The two-hour parade presented by the Houston St. Patrick's Parade Commission has historically been one of the largest in the United States and features an awards presentation and after-party in Market Square following the main event.
